marx weber class inequality
I really need help with my essay on class inequalities in contemporary Britain…?
The essay task is – Using the theories of Marx and Weber, critically examine whether class inequalities in contemporary Britain have been reduced?
I just really need a brief outline plan or something to get me started, i’m really stumped. This is my first essay for this year so i don’t really want to mess it up..
Thanks for any help
You should probably open with what defines ‘class’ in Britain and the basics of Marx and Weber’s opinions on class.
You should include religion, education and family.
Marxist views focus on the lower ‘working class’ which they call the proletariat being oppressed by the upper class or bourgeoisie who were the ruling class.
In religion he argues that the ruling class preach a false class consciousness through religion which compensates for workers suffering in everyday life. As these workers are socialized through education, religion and family not to question, they do not, So their belief that if they work well and suffer in life the will be rewarded in death, continues generation to generation.
You should include that Marx believes this needs to be abolished before classes can become equal.
You should use examples of contemporary studies and relate to Weber’s work on the protestant ethic. It would also be good to use criticisms of Marx ideas. (:
Hope some of that will be of use.
